Season 3 provides an insight into the male perspective of having cancer at a young age and offers a balanced representation to explore how different genders experience similar situations or challenges.
In this episode we introduce you to Darren, Euan and James who are discussing how relationships can be affected by the diagnosis and treatment. They talk about positive relationships with partners, family, friends and the medical team. They describe how unconditional support keeps you grounded, and that they felt they could draw strength from the people around them. Conversely, they acknowledge that being surrounded by people can sometimes be overwhelming and that you also need some time to be alone with your thoughts. So its important to balance time with people with space for yourself. They also discuss the changes in relationships when you rely on people for physical help and support. They describe this as being a 'big bonding experience' which can bring people closer.
They share the recognition that their experiences are very different from their friends and challenge the misconception that 'you're fine' because treatment has finished. They describe having cancer as an isolating experience, and share their apprehension about meeting other young people with cancer at first.

In this bonus episode we meet Stewart and his mum Lesley. Stewart was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 8 followed by a subsequent diagnosis of a skull tumour when he was 22. He is now 34.
Stewart and Lesley talk openly for the first time about the impact of cancer on them both as individuals and as a family. Lesley recalls being labelled as an overanxious mother prior to Stewarts diagnosis, and the challenges of juggling day to day life and work after his diagnosis whilst dealing with the fear and uncertainty which accompanies having a child with cancer. Stewart reflects on how different it felt for him having a serious health condition as a young adult in contrast to his childhood experience, and feeling he had 'more to lose' as an adult. Stewart and Lesley explain that they have never talked about the impact the cancer had had on them before now and, on reflection, they wish they had. Stewarts' advice to the listeners is "Talking is healing"

WARNING. This episode contains discussions that listeners might find upsetting.
This extended episode has been released in memory of Eden, one of our podcasters from series 1, who passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Eden and her family were grateful for the opportunity to record this podcast and have requested that this be released in Eden's memory.
In this episode Eden introduces us to her parents Alan and Geraldine. You will hear them discuss how, as a family they have navigated Eden's experience of cancer, particularly during the latter months of her life, which includes a raw and open discussion about death and dying that listeners may find distressing.
At RadioTherapy Podcast, it's important to everyone involved that we represent the many experiences of young people, including the topics that can be hard to talk about. Like Eden and her family we hope that this episode will add to the conversation about teenage and young adult cancer, but we encourage listeners to think about when this is a helpful conversation to hear.

In this episode Eden, Abby and Hollie discuss what 'surviving' means to them. They challenge the misconception that surviving solely relates to finishing treatment and being told you are in remission. Whilst that may be true for some, this episode explores the everyday reality of surviving cancer and the unique interpretations of this for each young person
